As announced by James Brent earlier this year, the club is creating a supervisory board from a combination of supporter group representatives and elected fans who have taken out a Club Membership. The Argyle Fans’ Trust board believes the proposed supervisory board has the potential to develop into an important additional channel through which the Trust can have influence over both the running of the club and in holding the club board to account. We thus encourage our members who have taken out Club Memberships (Green Pilgrim, etc) to consider putting themselves forward for the election as individual candidates, to help ensure the objectives of the Trust are furthered as the supervisory board develops. You can read more about the initial proposals here.
Given that nominations require a hefty 20 signatures from fellow fans, the Trust is offering to help members wishing to stand to meet this requirement by providing supporting signatures from other Trust members. Simply download the nomination form here, fill it out, and post it indicating your Trust membership number to Argyle Fans’ Trust, 43 Balland Park, Ashburton, Devon, TQ13 7BT to arrive no later than Monday 25th June, and we will then get 20 signatures for you at our AGM on June 26th and pass your form on to the club. Or you can simply come along to the AGM and get your signatures in person, and while you’re there you can have your say on the Trust’s future priorities and activities.
The Trust looks forward to playing a full and active part within the supervisory board in order to ensure that it becomes an integral part of the good governance of our football club and to improve upon its democratic processes. In order for the governance model to apply appropriate checks and balances, it will be important that the supervisory board is given the access and power needed to do so. Supporters Direct have made recommendations concerning the governance of football clubs in their Football Licensing Proposal, and the Trust will be encouraging the supervisory board to adopt these where appropriate. We also look forward to working with other supporters and supporter groups in establishing good two-way communication between the club and its fans.
Finally, the AFT also wishes to help the club ensure the creation of the supervisory board is as inclusive and open to all supporters as possible. We thus call on the club to make the supervisory board details and the nomination form available clearly from the home page of the PAFC web site between now and the closing date for nominations of 30th June, and to reduce the number of signatures required for nominations from the current 20 to a more reasonable 5 or fewer, to allow as many supporters as possible who are interested to stand, given many will not know or have access to 20 other Argyle supporters during the close season.
