The AFT notes the response of Scunthorpe United FC and has also been in communication with the Iron Trust about the late postponement of Argyle’s match at Glanford Park on 2 April. See the report on BBC Radio Humberside.
1) Use of covers:
The AFT now understands that the frost covers which were used are porous to allow ventilation and not resilient against rain. Due to the sheer volume of rain in the local area, it was always going to be extremely difficult to get the game on.
2) Referee involvement:
Unlike in previous years, local referees cannot be called in on the morning of games to assess the pitch and therefore Scunthorpe United’s capacity to alert fans earlier was very limited. The AFT questions the logic of this change in the rules which is likely to continue to cause frustration and a waste of time and money for away fans and calls for a return to the use of local referees where appropriate.
3) Bank Holiday fixtures
The AFT maintains that the EFL should weight its fixture-creating algorithm more towards prioritising games of shorter distances on Bank Holidays when travelling is likely to be more difficult.
