The board of the Argyle Fans’ Trust is horrified at the news that Bury has been expelled from the Football League.
We have nothing but sympathy and support for Bury’s fans who are going through the nightmare scenario of losing such an important part of their lives, and such a vital part of their local community.
The EFL stands complicit in allowing the demise of this historic and proud club.
It is our belief that the ‘fit and proper person’ test is in itself not fit for purpose and we will be calling on the EFL to introduce more stringent and demanding criteria for club owners.
This dreadful situation also demonstrates why supporters of every professional football club should belong to their Supporters’ Trust – a strong Trust will relentlessly scrutinise the club’s affairs without fear or favour.
We stand ready to give any assistance we can to Bury’s Supporters’ Trust in hopefully salvaging their clubs from the ruins and starting again.
Above all, having come perilously close to the same scenario nine years ago, we empathise completely with Bury FC’s fans and wish them all well in the future.
