On Saturday, the Club and the Green Army came together to pay an emotional tribute to Bobbi-Anne McLeod, with an impeccably observed minute’s silence before the game, and another of applause when the game reached the 18th minute.
It was a touching and unifying moment for a community still shocked by the tragic events of the last week.
Sadly, some sections of the support tarnished the game with disgraceful chants about the stricken Wigan player, Charlie Wyke.
Still worse, there were scenes of violent disorder in the last moments of the match, with the stewards in the Barn Park End overwhelmed by those intent on fighting rival fans.
It was a deeply depressing sight, a reminder of the dark days of football hooliganism. It will be particularly disappointing for the Club after it had responded to calls from the supporters to re-open “Zoo Corner”.
The AFT applauds the efforts of Plymouth Argyle for its determination to be an inclusive, family-friendly football club.
Equally, it condemns the unacceptable behaviour of those who have shamed the Club, the City, and the Green Army with their toxic chants and aggressive behaviour.
This is not what we want to see at Home Park.
